Contains information pertaining to the following wars and time periods: World War I and World War II. General description of the collection: The John L. Hines papers include his diaries covering the period from 15 May 1917 to 8 September 1919, a considerable amount of private correspondence (primarily with his wife and other family members including his brother-in-law, William M. Wherry), a good deal of correspondence between Charles L. Bolte and various prominent persons and historians regarding himself, newspaper obituaries and other newspaper clippings concerning himself, a large amount of congratulatory correspondence and ephemera on the occasion of his 100th birthday, drafts of biographical sketches of himself by Bolte and others, and correspondence of condolence to Mrs. Cleveland on the occasion of his death.
